Section 01

How we hire

TL;DR

  • Operations roles based in Lenexa, Kansas. Engineering, product, and most go-to-market roles remote across US time zones.
  • We hire full time. Pickers, packers, leads, and shift managers are W2 employees with benefits.
  • Comp ranges anchor to BLS OEWS data for the Kansas City MSA, then adjust up for performance.
  • Two interviews max for warehouse roles, four for engineering. We do not run weeks-long take-homes.

Hiring is the most important thing we do, so the process is short and serious. For warehouse roles, candidates spend about an hour on a phone screen, then come in for a working interview where they actually pick a few orders alongside the team they would join. We pay for that time. If both sides feel right, an offer goes out the next day.

For engineering and product, the process is one screen, one technical conversation that uses real Warpspeed code or a version of it, one team conversation, and a chat with a founder. There is no all-day onsite. There is no take-home that eats your weekend. We aim to close the loop in two weeks from first call to offer.

Section 02

Operations roles in Kansas City

The warehouse in Lenexa runs the operations team. Most days, the floor is staffed by pickers, packers, receivers, and cycle counters working under a shift lead. Leads report to a floor manager who reports to operations leadership. Account managers sit in the same building but in their own work area, with line of sight to the floor.

Open roles fall into a few buckets. Pickers and packers handle the bulk of inbound and outbound work. Warehouse leads run a shift, manage a team of about ten, and own the day’s throughput numbers. Account managers handle a portfolio of brands, run weekly operations reviews with the customer, and are the inside-the-building voice for that brand on the floor.

Pay is anchored to BLS OEWS data for the Kansas City MO-KS metro.[2] The national median annual wage for the broad hand laborer and material mover category was $37,680 in May 2024.[1] Local picker, packer, and stocker pay clusters around $16 to $22 per hour depending on experience and shift, with shift differentials and lead premiums on top.[3][4][5] Warehouse leads and operations managers run higher than that range.

The fastest way to know if you would be happy in our warehouse is to spend an hour picking with the team. We pay for that hour either way.

Comp ranges, anchored to public data

We try to publish honest ranges. The numbers below are anchored to BLS OEWS data for the Kansas City MO-KS metro and the national Occupational Outlook Handbook. Actual offers depend on experience, shift, and lead responsibilities. We add benefits, paid time off, and a 401k on top.

Section 04

Engineering and product, remote

ShipOS is the product. The engineering team is small, remote across US time zones, and writes most of the platform in TypeScript with a Postgres data layer. We deploy multiple times a day. We do not have a separate QA team. Engineers own the code from feature idea to production and into support rotations.

The product surface is broad. Inventory, order management, billing, integrations, customer portal, and internal warehouse tooling are all in scope. A given week might mean shipping a new EDI 940 mapping for a retailer, debugging a webhook deliverability issue with Shopify, or improving the way the receiving app handles a lot code scan. Most engineers ship to all of those areas at some point in their first year.

Hiring is rolling. We post named roles when they open, but if you read this and think you would fit, send a note. The best engineering hires we have made came in cold with a short note and a few links to work they were proud of.

Senior fullstack engineer

TypeScript, React, Postgres. Owns features end to end across ShipOS modules.

Integrations engineer

Shopify, Amazon, NetSuite, EDI. Lots of edge cases, lots of customer impact.

Product designer

Designs operator-facing tools. Needs comfort with dense data and real workflows.

Implementation engineer

Sits between sales and engineering. Maps a customer’s tech stack and ships the integration.

Section 05

Account management and go-to-market

Account managers are the inside-the-building voice for a brand. They sit on the operations side, attend the morning huddle, and own the weekly operations review with the customer. They are not salespeople. They are the people who know the answer when a customer asks why three units went short on the cycle count. Most account managers came up through warehouse leadership at Warpspeed or another 3PL.

Sales is small and consultative. We do not run an SDR pod with hundreds of cold dials. Most leads come in through referral, content, or our agency partners. The job is to listen carefully, scope the operation honestly, and walk away if we are not the right fit. The win rate on the deals we choose to chase is high, which keeps the team small and the comp plan honest.
